Apricot Sky Productions will be holding auditions this summer for its upcoming show.
Auditions will be July 18, 2024 at 7:00pm inside the Deron School of NJ (The Grove Street Theatre, 130 Grove Street Montclair, NJ.
Superior Mothers is an evening of one-act plays which will be performed for 6 shows in October. Show dates are: October 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27 The following roles are available. (Please have a 1 min comedic or dramatic monologue prepared.
Superior Mothers, a one act, is a true story of good vs. evil, where a 5 year-old child is being held captive by a vengeful Mother Superior, when his own Superior Mother comes to the rescue.
Roles available:
Mother Superior (Sister Mary Joseph)...age range 40s-70s. A fearsome individual who eventually caves to the Superior Mother. Can be played by a female or a male...just bring your best game!
Dahlia: This is the Superior Mother and a dual role. In the flashbacks, Dahlia is the mother of the main character and has the strength to stand up to Mother Superior. In the current day scenes, the same actress will play the daughter of the main character (who is the storyteller in the piece).
“Knockout” , (a one-act) is about a combative married couple who are waiting toattend Couples Counseling with a new therapist. After they starttheir appointment, the therapist has some interesting ideas on how toaddress the couple’s needs.
Parts available:
All actors should be physically fit. There will be some stage combatinvolved. Boxing experience is a plus. Must have the arm strengthand ability to simulate fighting with boxing gloves.
VINNIE (30’s to 50’s) – Long suffering husband of Sylvia. Brooklynresident. May be Italian. Good at bantering. Likes to go to theracetrack. A bit infantile.
SYLVIA (30’s to 50’s) – Long suffering wife of Vinnie. Brooklynresident. Good at bantering. Able to blow bubbles with chewing gum.
DR. TONY BIBBONS (30s to 50’s) – A couples therapist. A formerprofessional boxer previously known as “Lightning Feet”.
Happily Ever After (one-act) 2 performers, one male and one female.Robert: Male, 30’s to early 40s.Michelle: Female, 30’s to early 40’sA dive into the complex world of instant love and attraction, coupled with a bit of hysteria. The piece observes two people got off the heels of their first date and the reactions they both have.Robert has never had a relationship longer than six months and has only his parents dysfunctional 25 year marriage as a guy to have relationship should work. He is quirky, filled with nervous energy, a sarcastic, wet, and almost seems to want the relationship to end before even starts. But deep down he is looking for everything we all are, love.
Michelle is Sharp tongue, observant, and has her own opinions about how loving relationships work. Despite it being 3 o’clock in the morning in this scene, she is coherent, understands that Robert has some serious issues to work out, yet deep down she apparently has the same needs as he does. They need to love, the need to be loved, and the desire to have a relationship, no matter how perfect or imperfect it is.There will be some passionate kissing and intimacy in this scene. Please be aware and make your comfort level known at the audition.
The Ninth Biggest Moment of your Life (a one-act)
Life is a series of moments. For Gregory and Kayla, which moments will they remember when they are ready to move on into the next beyond. This intricate piece details one of these moments or possibly two or maybe even three or four.
Seeking two performers, one male and one female, both with the ability to look and play teenagers, aged 15-18
Gregory (male) 17 nice and average looking high schooler in a wheelchair. The typical outsider, not wel known but has that quiet maturity that comes with many hours of self reflection. He showcases as silent courage that most people wouldn’t have with a body of a superhero.
Kayla (female) 17, the typical all-American cheerleader looking girl. Popular and headed to Florida State. What is Kayla all about? Is she just her looks and her popularity? Or is there something deeper. She is more than just a girl next-door. More than just the popular girl that everybody wants to date. But what she is, she has yet to discover. Jello-O revolt a one-act A funny story that takes place in an Assisted Living Facility Roles available: Hannah (60-70's) Frank's wife of nearly 50 years, she loves to gossip and seems to know all. Frank (60-70's) Hannah's husband of nearly 50 years, bitter, tough and sracastic. Richard (60-70) a loner, reserved, shy, nervous, tried to be polite. Diane (60-70) flirtatious, tried to take charge, cautious. Peter ( 60-70) A 40 year retired NYC cop, sharp, sly, clever Betsy (30's) nursing home attendant, vibrant, reffered to as Nurse Ratched, overly sweet but needs to take control.
